Random Bits of Happy

I can’t believe October is almost over.  Time flies when you are learning new things!

My Handsome Man and I

My Handsome Man and I

This month I am especially thankful for Terrell.  My husband makes me hella happy.  He has the right encouraging words when I feel like I’m not getting something, he knows what to say to make me chill out and he offers the best advice on how to fix a situation.  He is my rock, my best friend and my biggest cheerleader and without that this year I don’t know if I would still have my sanity.  Friday is our 10 year wedding anniversary.  Happy Anniversary Sweetness!  I love you more than I sometimes can even express.  Joining hands with you and promising to be your wife is the best thing I have ever done.

My job makes me happy.  While I have had a day or two where training made me question my ability to do this job…with the proper training I feel that I am getting a good grasp of my job duties and am getting the hang of what I should be accomplishing every day.  It’s rewarding to have a job that makes me use my brain a little.  It had been a long time since I had a job that makes me use my noggin.  I go home tired, I want to tune out and veg out.  I know this is a habit I need to break, and I am slowly fixing it.  Coming home and getting a few things done, taking a look at my checklist and THEN tuning out. 🙂

Blue Betty (rama lama oh oh BLUE Betty, rama lama!) hehe

Blue Betty (rama lama oh oh BLUE Betty, rama lama!) hehe

My car is making me all sorts of happy.  My car is officially PAID OFF!  WooHoo!  I need to celebrate the occasion correctly though.  My car to be washed and shined and made to look pretty.  She had some problems last month and it turns out she needed a tune up at 70,000 instead of the recommended 80,000 so with that my little blue Betty (A blue Ford Focus 2 door with hatchback) is running like she’s young again.  So we are down to having just one car payment and it’s a great thing.  I plan on using the money to go to our house fund.  Put away some of the money that would have gone to the payment and pay off bills with a little of it as well.  Ahhh!

Quick Mentions:

Random Bits of Happy

This has been a strange but inviting week.  I’ve been spending time job searching between fun and interesting time with friends.

Honey smiles after her first trip to a dog park!

I got huge smiles and lots of naptime after I met up with my girlfriend Heather for her day off and we took our dogs to a nearby dog park.  It was a great way to get Honey used to an off leash area with NO other dogs except her buddy Benny.  She is cool with him and they had the park to themselves to run in.  It had been raining the day before, so I took a graceful slide in mud and Honey fell IN, yes completely IN a deep puddle.  It was all quite funny.  We went to Starbucks afterward for coffee for me, water for Heather and a doggie latte for our pooches…(whip cream in a kiddie cup).

Heather spoiling me rotten with good foods!

That same gorgeous Monday we went back to Heather’s apartment for lunch where she proceeded to make green salsa, and Beef Chile Colorado which we had in tortillas with black beans.  Get this….this wonderfully talented woman even sent me home with canned left over sauces.  *psst* The Green salsa is gone and so is the walnut blue cheese bread you sent home with me.  SOOOO yum!  I love days of indulgence.

Tegan and Sara 9-2-10 in St. Augustine, FL

The Tegan and Sara show last night was wonderful.  They played all of the songs I longed to hear in concert, they were adorable and quirky and the show was great!  I got a ride down with a new friend with whom she and I keep finding things in common, she was taking her daughter down for her birthday since the big name band playing was Paramore.  It was tweens everywhere.  Terrell was racing the clock, he got off work at 6:15 and showed up at the show in the middle of Tegan and Sara’s first song.  It was the best timing and we had such a good time!

Quick mentions

* Coffee with Ethan * Dinner in the rain with my husband * Late night talks * making amends * reading in the sunlight * Searching for a job on a quilt in my backyard while Honey plays and chases dragonflies * The dozen or so butterflies that have crossed my path this week! * This song makes me want to dream a little more and smile a lot more. * My first pair of TOMS shoes were bought with birthday money (I saved gift cards and had almost forgotten about them!) * My husband singing songs but changing the words to fit his life, singing about me and the puppy….it really makes me fall in love with him a little more every time he does this. * Finding out carrot dogs still exist and planning to eat one Saturday! * Three day weekends with my happy little family! and winning tickets for MMA for my man thanks to twitter re-tweets!

Enjoy your 3 day weekend!  Happy Labor Day Weekend and

Happy 35th Anniversary to my parents!

Butterflies: A Happy Moment

I am still here!  The joblessness in a state that has a 12% unemployment rate has just got me a little down and out.  Trying new things to bring up my mood a bit.  Until then, here is a favorite picture I took this weekend.  My man surfing, I was walking the beach, taking pictures and reading my book club’s current wonderful selection “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” on a blanket under a beach umbrella.  Pretty much a perfect day.  The Vitamin D did my mood wonders!

T catching a wave in!

Oh and just because….a closer look….

Closer.....

I feel better now that I posted SOMETHING!  How are you doing?  I hope you haven’t given up on my blog….I will return full on soon I am sure.  I am feeling better, even if I am still looking for that  j.o.b.

The Family Edition

*My Brother and his wife welcomed baby #2 into the world Friday February 12. Such a sweet little soul our Parker Eric!

* In the same weekend my Brother’s precious little #1 turned 2!  A Valentine baby who now shares a birthday just 2 days from his little Brother!  We played all weekend with Scott who is the proud owner of a play tunnel.  He loves it, can’t you tell!

* I also am feeling very lucky to have this wonderful man in my life.  Last night we turned a simple dinner at home into dinner, a trip out for fro-yo yummies and then craft night as he pulled out my big book of crafts and we picked something to work on while watching the Olympics.  We turned a boring night at home trying to save money into something cheap but extraordinarily fun!  He is amazing!

Halloween

* Halloween!  How can you not like the holiday that lets you dress up like goblins and faeries?  In fact I’ve had past halloweens as faeries,  zombies and gypsies.  I love it.  Even today with work not having dress up I wore a set of silver horns I bought at a Ren Fest years back.  Little devil horns make my outfit pop!  😉

I met Tarina Tarintino
I met Tarina Tarintino

* Enters my fangirl!!! *Squee* Last Friday night am artsy area of town (Riverside’s 5 points area) held a block party that they call First Fridays (held the 1st Friday of each month) and as a special treat one of the boutiques Edge City (where I’ve bought my quirky sunglasses and sparkley hair pins since I was 13) had a special guest.  Tarina Tarintino was there to promote her new collection.  I got to sneak in at the last minute thanks to the owner’s knowing me and allowing me to break the rules!  You had to have spent a certain amount prior to 5pm that day in order to get in to meet her and get her look book for free.  I got a look book and a photo with her.  Let me tell you how kind and genorous she is.  She was signing books out in the street at 10pm hungry and ready to get off her feet but was so genuinely sweet and floored by the crowd she drew….seriously people came all the way from Tampa to meet her.  She was gracious to everyone and loved the stores and the people in the area.  I need to post a scan of one of the pictures from the look book because it’s fabulous!

My new tattoo

My new tattoo

* A few weeks ago I got a new tattoo.  It’s my first color and also the first highly visible tattoo I have gotten as it’s about 6 inches above my wrist.  It has a heart hidden in it and stands for me and my husband as we are both fire signs.  At the end of the month we will celebrate 9 years of marriage.  He is my flame.  It felt good to get something that I feel so strong about.

Full Moon energy!

* The excitement before going to a concert!  We are taking tomorrow off to drive down to see Depeche Mode and the excitement I have over seeing one of my all time favorite bands is crazy!  I can’t wait to hear them live, I hear their show is no fluff, just them but the energy is unreal.  *squee*

* Books.  One of my favorite guilty pleasure authors came out with a new book in the series that I’ve been reading.  Karen Marie Moning and book number 4 – Dreamfever (The Fever Series) it’s romance but also mystery & sci-fi in the same book.  It’s about a girl that travels to Ireland to track down her sister’s murderer and ends up entangled in paranormal including ancient secrets, vampires, assorted Fae.  I devoured the book in just 3 days and wish the last book in the series was ready to be released!

*  My Knight in shining armor!  I had a terrible week last week that ended up draining my already hurting bank account and sitting on the side of the road with a flat tire, no lug nut bar to remove said tire and hives (I had just come from the Dr.)  I called my husband and not only did he come running….but we ended up having to tow the car and he took me home while we were waiting on the tow truck and let me stay cool in the AC while he dealt with that mess!  Also came home with the meds my Dr. prescribed for the hives.  He is my hero and I told him so many times!!!!

crepe

* Breakfast for dinner.  This week I wanted breakfast for dinner.  It’s such a guilty pleasure but we went to Village Inn and had crepes filled with yumminess and covered in fresh fruit.  Delicious!

*Bat For Lashes!  Her sophomore album feels like mellow magic.  It feels like fairies are dancing in my ipod.  I want to light candles put feathers in my hair and let her read my fortune.  Her songs are these beautiful descriptions of life.

*Craft night has been small lately and it has been a lot of fun to get to know all the ladies a little better.  Plus I have come home with a cute votive holder and also swanky cool greeting cards to send to friends!

*Working with people that I like.  I eat lunch with them and we end up having these conversations that result in belly laughs and sometimes tears.  Those laughs are seriously so good for the soul.  I feel lucky to be where I am even if it is only for a one year contract.

Quick mentions: candle light, vampire playlists, book club meeting, new tires & perfect alignment, true blood episodes that rock (Oh Eric!), cool gel benadryl (makes the hives stop itching like a charm), feather necklaces, Project Runway (finally! Season 5 on Lifetime), Riverside Arts Market, Birthday parties with jello shots, safely driving home drunk friends that yell funny stories from the backseat, Meeting people that wear shirts that say “Construction Worker by day, Ninja by night” and having them be as funny as their shirt!

Random Bits of Happy

This was a trying week as I had medical testing that drained me and stressed me out a bit.  However there are a few things that made my week better, made me smile and kept me on a positive mind set.

bangles and bracelets 2

*Saturday Terrell & I went to the Riverside Arts Market to see what was on the tables.  I bought some cheese from a nearby farm & some fresh organic red bell peppers.  We had a healthy lunch from the food vendor booths and then headed to my favorite thrift store.  At the thrift store I found 2 really neat bangle bracelets one plastic red & white and obviously vintage and a metal gold & silver that I’m guessing is from the 80’s.  I also came home with some funky picture frames and with a coat of black paint they were ready for some prints that I needed to frame.

*Tuesday was craft night and also my Dad’s birthday.  We were going to dinner as a family and I was upset about missing craft night.  I thought it out and went early so I could at least get the pattern and find out how to make it.  It’s a cute little retro owl and I picked colors of orange, yellow and green fabrics.  My owl pillow makes me smile.  I also got super crafty earlier and made my Dad’s Father’s Day card and made a messenger bag from an old pair of jeans.  All my crafts were very successful!  I gave myself big pats on the back!

*The best best best thing that happened this week happened yesterday evening.  My IPOD!!! It’s working correctly again.  It was working on the level that I could play it but every time I tried to hook it up to my computer so I could load my new music it went to “verifying…”.  It did this for 2 weeks and I finally let the ipod run completely out of battery and it powered up hooked to my computer correctly.  Look for 2 album reviews next week…Grizzly Bear & Regina Spektor.  Oh yay!  I have an 80G and only have about half of it used so I was going to be really sad if I had all that unused space forever!  Happy happy day!

*Last but not least my honey was feeling really burned out from work.  He took a few days off and has been spending the day with me.  We are silly together and have been spending lazy mornings in bed, afternoons running around town, lunches of grilled cheese and leftover curry (separately!) and lots of hugs and kisses.  Maybe tomorrow we can go walk the beach!  Of course I haven’t been good about looking for a job…I’ve been preoccupied.
