Buttons: Links for the week

Here are a few links that kept me busy this week:

* Orlando is almost ready for a Harry Potter invasion.  Take a look, Hogwarts is now visable!

* I know I’ve mentioned the site before but this week had some really amazing posts!  Luxaire.  She makes posts about 2 subjects, food and clothes.  The posts this week and last were amazing!

* I love tights!  I just found two really neat textured pair this past weekend on my shopping trip with my Mom.  I am a plus size.  I am working my way to thinner but still am somewhere between sizes….16 or 18 which by the way the plus sizes are usually 14/16 and 18/20 and so my trips into dressing rooms are always me with loads of sizes.  I was excited to learn that We Love Colors has a plus size range of tights! I think this might get me through all the ackward sizes!  I think I’m going to be wearing more dresses!  I’ll let you know how my order goes!

* My favorite blogger Gala Darling recently posted “50 Ways to Put the Light Back in Your Heart”.  I am a total sucker for happy lists….so go for it!

* Jazzi has the best blog for DIY couture looks! Her most recent post on the Diane von Furstenberg’s FW 09 Nomad Hat is great! I might try out a mini and make a headband.  I’ll take photos and make a post if it turns out successful!

* I have been reading 13 year old Tavi’s fashion blog for sometime now and it’s funny to see she is causing quite the stir in Paris.  I’m Team Tavi and wish I had the guts to be as bold as she is at such a young age.

* Did you ever wonder what Couture is?  Here is the down and dirty of it!

*

Enjoy my random linkage!

If you have an interesting link feel free to share!

Buttons: Magical Links

As of late I’m on a magic kick.  Finding magic in the little things in life.  Like the sun reflecting off your watch and making your car a sunburst of rainbows, or taking a walk and having a ladybug follow you along your walk.  With that the blogs that I have been frequenting have a little of that magic in them as well.

The Carousel

* Verhext: Magic is as magic does,  describes her site as a world of tarnished sequins.  Fields and fireflies at dusk.  Midnight rooftop tea parties.  Whirling dervish to fiddles and clarinets….and more.  Her posts are poems filled with pictures and I adore her sense of style.

*Angeliska Gazette is a New Orleans transplant living in Austin since Katrina.  She is fancying up her new digs in a state of eclectic beauty.  There is a beautiful gypsy magic that surrounds her life in glitter and music.  She blogs about everyday life in a way that makes me look forward to the next post wondering what type of wonderland I’ll end up in next.

*Lady Lovona’s Cabinet of Curiosities is just that.  It’s like plundering in your special Aunt’s drawers.  You know the Aunt, the one that reads your tarot cards and secretly gives you sparkley makeup before Mom allows you to even wear makeup (you didn’t have an Aunt like that?  I do, she still gives me neat trinkets)  Lavona’s site is filled with her kitchen witchery and while her site is new to me I am finding new treasures buried deep in her site everyday.

*Luxirare’s site is food and style porn whipped together in the most magical way.  Visit her site for yummy treats of bento boxes done up in the extreme or style taken to the maxium.  Beware as her style is very couture and can be quite NSFW.  But it is a magical treat nonetheless!

Buttons: Obsessive Links

So I get obsessive over the internet.  I find a site I like or find a subject matter and will obsess over it for years to come.  I have many websites that I do this with and just thought it might help to add a category that allows me to share with you!

* Gala Darling is MAJOR obsession, her pink hair, positive attitude and links galore, she is probably the main place I find all my own obsessive links as she has one day a week she post links and there are usually one or two that catch my eye.  But she ALWAYS catches my eye!

* Love your house or apartment but think it needs that little touch to make it seem more like you?  I love the posts on Apartment Therapy.  I scan through the apartment side and then jump over to re-nest (the recycling portion of the site) and then unplggd (the nerdy gadget side of things) the other 2 parts of the site are equally interesting but I usually check out those 3 first before heading over to the kids site – ohdeedoh and the kitchen site – kitchn.  I love when they show cottages and nook and cranny houses that have made space where there isn’t space, for some reason those spaces call to me!

*16 year old Jane has a shoe obsession that tops all.  I enjoy her blog Sea of Shoes:  fashion posts of quirky style and her slow accent to fame.  After all who else can say they have been featured in Teen Vouge and had an article written about her and her Mother’s similar fashion in the adult Vogue coming out THIS month!  She amazes me!

* Haute Macabre is my gothy/emo teen years taken to a higher fashion level.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE looking at the everything on this site.  The dark make-up the chunky heels that are now Givenchy’s and not Hot Topics, the outfits that are dark and broody but could still work as work friendly and the over the top that I just adore to look at.

*The flickr group Magic is as Magic Does because well….just read their group description:   You know those moments in life that make your heart seize up, that make you say “Wow, my life is amazing and magical and I am so so blessed to be here in this moment now?”  This flickr group is to remind us of those tiny moments and share them with others. Vignettes, tea parties, waterfalls, tidepools, a cozy corner of your home, a visit to your friend’s wonderful house – if you experienced it, please add it here!  Psst: I have posted a few of my own flickr pictures to this group.  I love what I find here and they have inspired me to find and make my own magic!

I think this can hook you up for a while….I have many more though.  My Bookmark list is jam packed full so stay tuned for more next week.

My favorite local links

I love that Jacksonville has all these small companies that start with an idea and end up with a great store!

Here are my current favorites:

Emily – Anomaly which isn’t up to date but will tell you how to find the most amazing store.  With local brands, and also the cool and hip fashion of the now, and of course handmade wares from her own two hands.  She also keeps a blog that updates her Tuesday night craft night and thrifty finds.

Burro Bags – I’m told the owner is a Jack Diablo.  I haven’t met him yet…or maybe I have and just don’t know it.  I go to Jacksonville events a lot and fail to get names of people I talk to!  But anyway…the bags and wallets are made from recycled billboard materials and I visited the store/place of creation the other day and as soon as I have a job again I will be purchasing one of the bags.

Arturo Clothing Co. has a great spot on Etsy and I just found a blog as well thanks to google.  They hand print tshirts in fun interesting designs and I keep running into them at stores, art walk and at the Riverside Arts Market.  Their shirts are high quality American Apparel and if you can’t find them at the locations I mentioned they ship out from purchases online as well.

I know there are more.  Tell me about what you have found in town.
