Butterflies: Things That Make My Heart Flutter

Random Bits of Happy

* Planning a haircut.  I have medium length hair and once colored and cut I usually go about 3 months without needing a haircut or touch up.  I love planning.  I made my appointment for Saturday and I adore playing with the ideas of wild colors, over the top styles and cuts.  In the end I know it will be a trim, with maybe some wild layers!  I have fun anyway thinking about the styles.

Also in the same vein…I found the cutest pink clip in extensions from Hot Topic and wore them all day yesterday.  I had two adorable pink streaks peaking out of my dirty blond hair.  Friends and Co-Workers thought it was real at first and they all seemed to find it fitting and cute.  I think it may just stay as extensions, but it’s one of the things I toy with in my mind all the time….so it was fun to live it.  I will be wearing them to a “F%@K Valentine’s Day” party on Saturday.  I will post some picture next week!

* The book club I meet with was last night.  Wine, food, discussion, laughter, full of all of the above we all leave happy and recharged.  A good number of the ladies expressed that this is the one thing they do for themselves each month.  It was time for a new book to be chosen and the person choosing actually picked a book because she knows I love Vampire novels.  How very sweet is that?  So I am really excited to be reading The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova this month.  It sounds really interesting.  I am looking online to see if I can grab it from the library and if not will call my local book consignment to see if he has it, I could download it to kindle for iphone but it’s a really long book and I think I want the real deal.  One way or another I will have it in my hot little hands tonight.  🙂

* Last Thursday night I had a phone catastrophy.  My phone crashed and wouldn’t recover.  I found out it was under warranty but expressed to my husband that for many reasons (the biggest being I wanted an e-reader and had found out iphone….wait for it…..has an app for it) I wanted to upgrade.  We realised we could do so for pretty cheap since my contract was up and so I upgraded and then we got the replacement as well and hubby got a phone upgrade as well….for zero bucks!  He’s happy, I’m happy, I have an e-reader app and a book on my phone.  It’s blissful.  My love affair with Apple continues.  They can be pricey but SOOOOO very worth it.

Quick Mentions:

* The silver vintage evening bag I found while antiquing ($6 and it’s adorable!) * Working on my #RadicalSelfLove bible – following along on the Gala journey (expect an update from me soon, I’m going to scan some pages) * Valentine’s day colors are my favorite! Pink, red and white oh my!  * Conversation Hearts “Bite Me” * Heligoland – Massive Attack is so lovely!  * Looking forward to Asian fusion for V-Day dinner

* Spending a Saturday wandering through tables of junk at the Flea Market with my happy to shop with me husband.  It makes me so happy to have a built-in shopping partner.  He is always willing to go to a Flea Market, a mall, an antique store, a thrift store, Target.  It makes me want to kiss all over him!  Saturday we left the Flea Market empty-handed, nothing but junk and crisp cold air.  We had fun though and had been in the outdoors, shaking out the winter legs and enjoying the sun even if it was cold out.  We were pleased that we had gone.  We made a trip to the Army/Navy Surplus on a whim on our return back home and he made out like a bandit, he got a really neat digital camo case for his gun and a witty t-shirt.  I think this weekend should be my weekend to make out like a bandit shopping wise!  What do you think? 🙂

* LOST!  No spoilers…I promise.  It’s the final season and it’s amazing.  The 2 hour season première came on and I watched and twittered simultaneously.  What a treat.  It answered a question or two but created even more questions.  I hold no real want for the ending to be something special so that I am not let down but just hope they end it answering some of the big big questions.  Are you watching it too?

* The Underbelly.  A quaint little speakeasy bar hidden in the back of one of my favorite stores.  Get this, you enter behind a bookcase and there you have a bar with a few bar stools, a table, some leather wing back chairs and a set in bench that seats about 6.  If you go out the back door there is seating outdoors, a small stage, a treehouse for the DJ and fairy lights to twinkle through out the night.  Friday night we met a friend for a few drinks.  You can easily talk to one another (and the small space makes you end up talking to those around you as well) but there is music playing that is loud enough to hear, but not too loud that you have to speak up to hear your friends.  Mellow tunes and a great list of beer and wine make it a good place to meet friends for a quiet night out.

Quick Mentions:

* Imbolic was on Tuesday, I lit some candles and meditated a little on the meaning of the day.  * Breakfast for dinner.  * Finding a top at Target when I went in for toothpaste, on mega 75% off sale hello $8.97 and then getting complimented all day when I wear it!  * Massive Attack leaking on YouTube and being just as awesome as you hope it would be.  *Being on a friend’s twitter group list called “I’d Hit That” it still makes me blush a little and giggle, I love it!  *

Beats: New Music to Get You Going

Wow artists have been busy!  This is music that I will be obtaining to give a listen to within the upcoming weeks.  I’ll try to review what I can but really at least listen to the samples once they are up at the Amazon.com because everyone has different taste, but these are some current favorite artists.

Released this week:

* Surfer Blood – Astro Coast – A new Indie lo-fi band that will be playing nearby at Cafe 11 on Monday 1/25/10.  I will give a review of the show since my husband really wants to go.  Sirus XM has played two songs Swim & Catholic Pagans and so far I like both songs.

* Cold War Kids – (EP) Behave Yourself  – A digital only release.  I love these guys!  We have seen them live and they put on such an amazing show.  They are listed as Indie Pop but I think they have a little Blues Rock in them too.  I will be downloading for a listen soon.  If you haven’t heard of them start with Robbers & Cowards a wonderful 1st album.

* The Editors – In This Light & On This Evening – Brit Rock at it’s finest.  I have loved their sound before and am looking forward to another album.

Release Feb. 2:

* BT – These Hopeful Machines – Dance & Electronica that will knock your socks off.  BT’s music is heard on commercials, in movies, he’s a much sought after producer and I look forward to what he brings.  We’ve seen him live 3 times and I would go see him again and again.  His energy and music is contagious with happy.

*Midlake – Courage of Others – Indie Rock  lo-fi their sound is fluid and calm.  Sirus XM has played the single off this release (the name of the song has thus eluded me!) and it’s made me want the album.

Release Feb. 9:

* Sade – Soldier of Love – R&B that in the past I’m sure her albums have contributed to many babies being made.  Sade’s voice is like a fine wine.  Her first album in 10 years and the single Soldier of Love is breath-taking! A must own album.  For the past 10 years Lover’s Rock has been a staple listen for us and I can say this album will most likely hold us for the next 10 years.

* Massive Attack – Heligoland – Electronica gone mainstream, but I have always called them Trip Hop.  I bet anyone that watches TV show House knows this band with opening song Teardrop.  I look forward to the deep sounds that they bring full of jazz, soul, hip hop and techno all mixed into beautiful beats.

*  Yeasayer – Odd Blood – Only described as Experimental Rock a band with a strange sound.  I have heard a handful of songs on Sirus XM and look forward to taking a listen to this album since the single that’s out keeps teasing me with sounds that tickle my ears.

Do you have a favorite band that has an album coming out soon?  Who and what makes you keep listening?
